Raül Romeva, Deputy Secretary General for Foresight and Agenda 2030 of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya, visited the facilities of Grup Boix to learn first-hand about the company’s activities. In a day guided by the company’s management team, Romeva was able to see first-hand the circularity of the company’s production process, the main reference in the forestry bioeconomy in Catalonia.

The company currently manages 2 production plants in Berguedà – 2 sawmills and a packing plant – and employs 120 people from the region who, through their activity, transform 180,000 tonnes of wood into sawn wood every year. Grup Boix also produces packaging, biomass and road safety elements.

Over the course of fifty years, the organisation has diversified and expanded its activities to create value to the natural forest and social capital, while working to preserve the forests. In this sense, Grup Boix has implemented cutting-edge technology and has incorporated the digitalisation of its processes to improve the efficiency and security of one of the oldest and most ancient economic sectors in the area.
